Tenuti

Terms

Last updated 2 September 2026

These are the terms on which you may use Tenuti. They are written to be read, not to be skipped. If something here seems unreasonable, say so — the address is at the bottom.

Who runs Tenuti

Tenuti is operated by Chris Jepson, who can be reached at info@tenuti.ch. It is a small independent service, not a large company, and it is currently in active development.

Who may use it

You need an account, and you must give an email address you actually control. Accounts are personal: don't share your password or let someone else use your login, because everything done from your account is recorded as done by you.

Children. Tenuti holds records about children, but it is designed to be used by teachers and institutions, who are responsible for obtaining whatever consent their own rules and local law require before adding a student. If you are under 16, you should only have an account because a teacher or your school set one up and your parent or guardian agreed to it.

What you can expect from Tenuti

Tenuti will keep your data available to you, keep lesson notes and assessments visible only to the teacher who wrote them, and let you export everything held about you at any time from Settings.

It runs on infrastructure operated by other companies and it is maintained by one person. It will sometimes be unavailable, for maintenance or because something has broken. There is no guaranteed uptime and no support commitment — problems get looked at as quickly as is realistic, which during a working week usually means the same day.

During the pilot period, features may change or be withdrawn as the service is shaped around what teachers actually need. Anything that would remove or make inaccessible data you have already entered will be announced by email before it happens, with time to export first.

What Tenuti expects from you

Don't use it to:

  • upload or write anything unlawful, or anything harmful to a child
  • gain access to records that aren't yours — including other people's students
  • test its security without asking first (ask, and the answer is likely yes)
  • resell access, or use it to build a competing service
  • automate access in a way that degrades it for everyone else

If you're a teacher or an institution, you're responsible for the accuracy of what you enter about your students, and for having the right to enter it at all.

Your content stays yours

Lesson notes, assessments, repertoire, uploaded sheet music and everything else you put into Tenuti belongs to you. Uploading it grants only the permission needed to run the service — storing it, backing it up, and showing it to the people you've shared it with. Nothing you enter is used to train machine-learning models, sold, or shared with advertisers.

Where a teacher writes notes about a student, both have interests in that record: the teacher as its author, the student as its subject. Who can see what is set out in the privacy notice, and enforced in the software rather than left to good manners.

Ending it

You can close your account at any time from Settings, and export your data first. Some records are deleted immediately; others are kept as long as the retention policy requires, which is 24 months for practice logs, lesson notes and assessments unless a teacher has marked a record to be kept.

A teacher's account cannot be deleted while students are still connected to it, because doing so would take their lesson history with it. Disconnect the students first, or ask for help doing so.

Tenuti may suspend an account that is being used to break the rules above. Except where a child is at risk or the law requires otherwise, you'll be told why and given a chance to export your data.

Payment

Tenuti is currently free to use. If charging begins, existing users will be told before it applies to them, and nobody will be billed without agreeing to a price first.

Liability

Tenuti is provided as it is. It's a record-keeping tool, not a system of record for anything with legal or financial consequence, and it should not be the only place any important information exists. Keep your own copies of anything that matters — the export in Settings is there for exactly that.

To the extent the law allows, Chris Jepson is not liable for indirect losses, lost profits, or lost data arising from use of the service. Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.

Changes to these terms

These terms will change as the service does. Material changes will be announced by email at least 14 days before they take effect, and the date at the top of this page always reflects the current version. Continuing to use Tenuti after a change means accepting it; if you'd rather not, close your account and take your data with you.

Governing law

To be confirmed before Tenuti is offered to institutions, alongside the equivalent question in the privacy notice. If this matters to you before then, please ask.

Getting in touch

Questions about these terms, or anything else, go to info@tenuti.ch. Institutions needing a data processing agreement should ask for one at the same address.
